the 12 year old....

On the eve of newyear, sat thousands of people on the wall facing the sea, along the posh marine drive in mumbai...
Young couples of all backgrounds enjoying the last sunset of the year 2005. Some find more beauty in the eyes of their lovers... But then the majority of the people out there weren't these Romeos and Juliets, but those who neither saw the sunset nor the waves but who sharpened their observation skills...

Not to mention we were in that majority. We left no one. Chics on a body-shaping mission jogging along the promenade, the upper crust flaunting their wealth in their cars, outfits and pets, and ofcourse those Romeos and Juliets displaying each other their affection. The life in Mumbai never seemed to be so good before.

But then being Mumbai you can not live without it. Like those poor gali children interrupting a photo session trying to get some money for keeping their innocent smiles away from those pictures.. Like the dirty children who grab the shawls of the Juliets to get money from their Romeos.....and like this little boy who would never leave us with out buying his popcons. Our little friend was hardly a 12 year old. Popcorn was the last thing I wanted since we were all thirsty and I never liked it too. Any way to buy back our precious time, I placed a 10 rupee note in his pocket and told him that we didn't need his popcorn now..

But to our utter surprise he said "saab hum paise nahi lete"....and he backed off giving it back to us..

Popcorn we bought from him that day tasted the best in my life..I wish I had his heart.

ps: some times I wonder why people, refuse to take a lottery ticket from a blind man, but would give him money if he is a beggar...
